Arlington Heights FD seeks applicants for fire chief

GovHR USA is currently assisting the Village of Arlington Heights in recruiting a new Fire Chief. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified leader to take charge of a well-established and highly respected fire department. The Arlington Heights Fire Department employs 108 personnel who provide modern fire protection, emergency medical services (EMS), public education, and other critical community services. The department operates out of four fire stations, each equipped with full fire, EMS (Advanced Life Support), fire prevention, and special operations capabilities. It is part of the Northwest Central Dispatch System, which serves over 500,000 residents across 170 square miles, handling nearly 246,000 emergency calls annually. The department typically responds to around 10,000 calls per year. In addition to its operational excellence, the department's Training Division manages one of the state’s premier fire academies, offering advanced training from a cutting-edge facility. With an operating budget of $22.6 million (as of 2018) and an ISO Class 1 rating—held by fewer than 200 departments nationwide—it is a model of efficiency and safety. The Village and Local 3105, the firefighters’ union, maintain strong labor relations through interest-based bargaining, minimizing the need for legal involvement in contract negotiations. To be considered, the successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Fire Science, or a related field, along with more than ten years of progressively responsible experience in fire management, suppression, and EMS. A Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates should also have completed NIMS 100 through 800, hold Chief Fire Officer Provisional Status, or be eligible to obtain Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification within four years of hire. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of modern fire service practices, governmental procedures, legal regulations, and human resource management. They must possess excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in using computer systems and software. Compensation for this role starts at $127,000 to $140,000 per year, depending on qualifications. The benefits package includes participation in the Illinois Downstate Firefighters Pension Fund, comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision), life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a deferred compensation plan. Employees also enjoy paid time off, holidays, and sick days. Applications are due by December 21, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. CST. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online with a resume, cover letter, and contact information for five professional references. All submissions must be electronic.
