Arlington Heights FD seeks applicants for fire chief

GovHR USA is excited to share that the Village of Arlington Heights is currently seeking a new Fire Chief. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified leader with a strong background in fire management, emergency medical services (EMS), and public safety. The Arlington Heights Fire Department employs 108 dedicated personnel who provide modern fire protection, advanced life support (ALS) emergency care, public education, and other essential services. The department operates from four fire stations and is part of the Northwest Central Dispatch System, which serves over 500,000 residents across 170 square miles. With approximately 10,000 calls handled annually, the department maintains a high level of service and efficiency. The Fire Department's Training Division is recognized for its state-of-the-art training facility, which supports both daily operations and long-term development. In 2018, the department had an operating budget of $22,635,337 and holds an ISO Class 1 rating — one of the top 200 fire departments nationwide out of 47,000. The Village and Local 3105, the firefighters’ union, have maintained positive labor relations through interest-based bargaining. The most recent contract was completed with minimal legal involvement, reflecting a collaborative approach. To be considered for this position, candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Fire Science, or a related field, along with more than ten years of progressively responsible experience in fire management, suppression, and EMS. A Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates should also hold NIMS certifications (100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800), be provisionally certified as a Chief Fire Officer, or have the ability to obtain Executive Fire Officer (EFO) certification within four years of hire. Key qualifications include knowledge of modern fire service methods, administrative procedures, local and federal regulations, human resource management, and strong communication and leadership skills. Proficiency in computer systems and the ability to analyze information and make sound decisions are also essential. The starting salary range is $127,000 to $140,000, depending on qualifications. Benefits include participation in the Illinois Downstate Firefighters Pension Fund, comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision), life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a deferred compensation program. Paid time off includes vacation, holidays, and sick days. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online by December 21, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. CST.
