RUSAL, the world's third-largest aluminum producer, said on Thursday that it had installed a new 400-kilometer electrolytic tank at its Sayanogorsk smelter.
RUSAL said in a statement that the new electrolytic tank produces 3 tons of aluminum per day. This is more efficient and environmentally friendly than the previous 300 kA electrolytic tank.
RusAL decided to install more than two such electrolytic tanks in Sayansk.
The company's installation of electrolytic tanks is mainly to increase its production capacity at a lower cost.
The company plans to install two more electrolytic tanks at the Sayanogorsk smelter, and plans to test a 500-kilometer electrolytic tank at its Krasnoyarsk smelter later this year.
The company plans to increase its aluminum production to nearly one million to five million tons by 2015 by taking a series of measures to modernize its existing smelters and establish new smelters. In 2004, the company produced 2.671 million tons of primary aluminum.
