Another historical account from Jim Regan’s archive. This tragic fire took place on a freezing cold night, leading to the death of Firefighter Kelvin Anderson from Engine 107. His body was found several hours after the fire had reached its peak. I've shared some photos I captured during this event.

From fsi.illinois.edu:
On December 22, 1989, Firefighter Kelvin Anderson of Engine 107 with the Chicago Fire Department lost his life while responding to a fire at the Rose of Sharon Church on W. Warren Boulevard. The incident occurred during a severe winter night, and Anderson was inside the church searching for victims when the roof collapsed around 7 p.m. His fellow firefighters worked tirelessly for over 16 hours before recovering his body from the basement under the debris early the next morning. An autopsy revealed that he died from asphyxiation and severe burns. He was honored with full department honors during his funeral, and a memorial plaque was dedicated to him at Engine 107’s station in 2001. These images and stories serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who protect our communities.
