Chicago 2-11 Alarm commercial fire, 1-17-14

Chicago experienced a significant fire overnight at the intersection of 75th Street and King Drive. The incident, which occurred at the Dollar & Up store located at the southwest corner of East 75th and South Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, was first reported around midnight by Chicago Fire Department District Chief Tim Sampey. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a substantial fire and quickly escalated their response to a 2-11 alarm to prevent the flames from spreading to the neighboring Cricket store. Thankfully, it was determined that there were no individuals inside the burning building, allowing firefighters to adopt a defensive strategy, focusing their efforts on containing the fire from the exterior. Their quick action successfully halted the fire's progression, and by 1:30 a.m., the blaze was fully extinguished. These images from the scene were captured by photographer Gordon J. Nord, Jr., providing a detailed look at the intense firefighting efforts. Additional photos showcasing the aftermath and the extensive coordination between emergency personnel can also be seen on FireScenes.Net.
