From excerpts on DailyHerald.com:
Mount Prospect Fire Chief Brian Lambel is requesting approval from the village's board of fire and police commissioners to dismiss an employee over alleged threatening behavior. According to the complaint filed by the chief, Firefighter/Paramedic Lloyd Miller, a 12-year veteran currently on paid administrative leave since January, allegedly stated he would "kill some people" if he wasn't included on the promotion list. The complaint also claims that his colleagues are fearful of him and have shared Facebook images of him shooting at a picture resembling Osama bin Laden.
Chief Lambel mentioned that the allegations will be discussed during a Thursday evening session of the commission, declining further commentary beyond what is stated in the complaint.
Miller's lawyer, Dan Herbert, labeled the accusations as baseless, suggesting they're a retaliatory move against Miller for his public remarks about the village during his bid for a leadership role within the firefighters' union. Miller ran for a position on the union executive board during meetings held in November and December.
The complaint details that on January 13, Miller reportedly expressed dissatisfaction to Firefighter/Paramedic Joseph Reschke regarding a recent transfer to another station and changes to the lieutenant promotion process, threatening to harm others if he didn’t make the next lieutenant list. Reschke reported this incident, leading to Lambel placing Miller on administrative leave starting January 17, pending a formal investigation.
Additionally, Lambel requested that Miller undergo a fitness-for-duty assessment on January 24. During this evaluation, Miller, who owns a handgun and shotgun, denied ever using either firearm, claimed not to be particularly interested in guns, and couldn’t specify the brands, calibers, or types of ammunition associated with them.
Despite these denials, Miller's coworkers handed Lambel copies of six photographs sourced from his Facebook profile. These images depict Miller holding a gun and aiming at a target resembling Osama bin Laden, along with a solo shot of him standing beside a large poster of bin Laden that appeared riddled with around 20 bullet holes.
The complaint notes that Miller refuted making any threats and dismissed recognizing himself in the pictures when shown them.
Thanks, Dan.
