SKF's new taconite seal for the release bearing (purchasing supply) is protected from contaminated conditions and wet conditions. The seal can be used for conveyor belts such as conveyor pulleys, cranes (purchasing supplies) and winches (purchasing supplies), pulverizers, fans (purchasing supplies) and mining, cement, pulp and paper, steel and shipbuilding industries. The taconite seal made by SKF (machined cast iron or steel) consists of two rings (a stationary ring and a rotating ring) forming a narrow labyrinth between them. This rotating labyrinth ring is equipped with a static labyrinth ring that seals the inner low-friction V-seal, blocking water from entering the bearing housing and effectively removing grease. The rotating labyrinth ring facing the housing will transfer and discard the water.
Since this compact seal has a shorter axial width than the conventional type of seal, space can be saved. As standard, these seals can be easily mounted into a range of bearing housings with shaft sizes from 50 mm to 450 mm. The annular groove on the outer diameter surface of the sealed stationary labyrinth ring helps to simplify alignment and installation. The smaller seal will be securely fastened to one shaft with three headless screws/set screws, while the larger diameter seals have been designed to be bolted. The built-in oil fitting helps to reapply grease if necessary.
