Larry Shapiro here, filing this update from the scene shortly after the incident was brought under control.
Around 3 PM on Tuesday, both Wheeling and Prospect Heights fire departments were dispatched to the FedEx Ground facility located at 1430 S. Wolf Road. The initial call came in reporting a delivery truck that had caught fire inside the building. As soon as the first responders arrived, they confirmed that there was indeed a truck fire inside, accompanied by thick plumes of smoke. Fortunately, it turned out that only the engine compartment was involved in the blaze, and luckily, the storage area of the truck was found to be completely empty.
The MABAS Division 1 Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) quickly joined the efforts to clear the massive warehouse of the dense smoke. It was a coordinated operation to ensure everything was handled efficiently and safely.
By the time I arrived, the fire had been successfully contained, and I managed to capture some photos and even a short video footage for documentation.

It was definitely an intense situation, but thanks to the swift action of the firefighters, the situation was resolved without any major complications. This just goes to show how crucial these emergency services are in keeping our communities safe!
