Recently, an innovative automatic pipeline heater fueled by oil well casing gas was successfully tested and has been operating efficiently at the No. 3 Oil Production Plant in the Dagang Oilfield. This new system represents a significant step forward in optimizing energy use and reducing operational costs in cold weather conditions.
During the winter months, certain oil wells with poor-quality crude oil require heating to maintain production efficiency. Traditionally, electric heaters have been used for this purpose. However, due to rising energy costs and environmental concerns, the process engineers at the No. 3 Oil Production Plant sought a more sustainable solution. By leveraging the abundant casing gas available from the oil wells, they implemented an automatic pipeline heating system that uses this waste gas as fuel.
This system offers numerous advantages, including compact design, easy installation and removal, high automation levels, efficient heat utilization, low gas consumption, and cost-effective investment. It is also energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, making it an ideal alternative to conventional electric heating methods.
So far, the technology has been tested in four different oil wells, and the results have been impressive. The heating performance is consistent and effective, allowing the system to completely replace electric heaters in these applications. This development not only reduces power consumption but also contributes to a more sustainable and economically viable operation in the oilfield.
