·The German Minister of Transportation hopes that the EU has stricter emission regulations

German Transport Minister Alexander Dobrind told the European Bureau of Investigation that the EU needs to further legislate the legislation to prevent automakers from installing exhaust switches to detect exhaust emissions.
The staff of the European Bureau of Investigation asked questions about whether the EU's current legislation is too vague about the relevant regulations on “failure protectors”. Dobrinde said that the exhaust emission control system should only be used in very few cases. For example, the car manufacturer can prove that there is no reliable and effective technology to protect the engine except the system.
Prior to this, on October 17, US time, the European Union also held a survey meeting on Fiat Chrysler (FCA). FCA was previously accused by the German Ministry of Transportation that its 500X diesel car uses "failed" software. Harald Wester, FCA's chief technology officer, said the management control software used on the 500X was designed to protect the car's engine, and this behavior is permitted in EU legislation.
Previously, investigations by the German side have caused recalls of 630,000 vehicles from Porsche, Volkswagen Opel, Audi and Mercedes. Germany also claims that Fiat Chrysler is the only car manufacturer in addition to the Volkswagen Group that violates the exhaust gas emission law. Germany has now requested the European Commission to regulate its conflict with the Italian approval agency regarding Fiat's emissions. Dobrind called for a corresponding agency to help coordinate similar disputes in the future.
Dobrind believes that the most advanced technology is mandatory to make up for legal loopholes, and hopes to discuss with the EU in December how to amend the relevant legal content of the EU. In an interview with Reuters, he said: "I have seen that member states have been tested one after another, and these countries are increasingly aware that the relevant laws need to be adjusted and changed."
In May of this year, GM's subsidiary Opel was also accused by the German Ministry of Transport. Dobrind said that it is still questioned whether the shutdown of the exhaust gas treatment device is to protect the engine when the temperature is below 17 °C.
The European Commission said it would issue a guideline in December. The guidelines will be described in terms of the legal regulations that automakers can use to protect their engines using "switching devices."
Earlier this year, the European Commission has proposed new regulations to strengthen market regulation of the automotive industry, including the right to recall vehicles to member states, even if they are approved for sale in other member states of the alliance.
