The Moreland family, who own the McDonald’s in West Frankfort, shared that they’ve organized fundraisers before, but this was their first time supporting the local fire department. The event brought together the community and emergency responders in a unique way.
Firefighters were on hand to take orders, prepare food, and even share a meal with customers. A generous 20% of all sales from the event went directly to the fire department. In addition to selling cookies, they also accepted donations, and in total, they raised $1,132.51—proving that community support can make a real difference.
To add to the fun, several firetrucks were on display for the public to explore. It was a rare chance for people to get up close and personal with the equipment that keeps their town safe.
The Moreland family emphasized the importance of building relationships with first responders, especially firefighters. They believe that spending quality time with these individuals helps foster trust and makes people feel more at ease during emergencies.
West Frankfort Fire Chief Jody Allen expressed his gratitude for the support and said he hopes the event inspires others to consider a career in firefighting. He added that the funds will be used to purchase new equipment and invest in training tools that will improve emergency response capabilities in the future.
