Around 2:50 PM on Saturday, the Dolton Fire Department received an emergency call regarding a significant fire in a large storage shed located on a vacant industrial property at the intersection of 142nd and Cottage Grove. The images below were captured roughly an hour into the firefighting efforts. Due to the scarcity of working hydrants along this stretch of road, firefighters had to rely on extended hoses. Calumet City's Tower 309 and Lansing’s Tower 107 were both active at the scene. Riverdale Engine 836 managed to secure a hydrant at the corner of 142nd and Cottage Grove, supplying water to Burnham Engine 2016. South Holland Engine 669 also had a hydrant on Cottage Grove near the entrance to the industrial complex. Interestingly, you can see Phoenix Engine 1708 in staging, which used to be Chicago's Engine 72—the number is still clearly visible on the door. There was also a request for HAZMAT experts to assist at the scene. The incident escalated to a third alarm, though this happened after I left.
