Last night, a devastating house fire broke out in Frankfort, and I was on the scene pretty quickly. It happened around 11:48 PM on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at 8303 Brickstone Drive. When Frankfort Fire Department arrived, the two-story house was already fully engulfed in flames, and they could see the fire spreading towards the neighboring house.
According to Frankfort Fire Battalion Chief Nick Peters, who spoke to The Herald-News, it took firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Unfortunately, by then, the entire house was completely destroyed. There was also some external damage to the house next door, and both homes experienced natural gas leaks, which posed additional risks.
I managed to take some photos during the incident. One shot shows the corner of the house where the fire first broke out, capturing the intense heat and smoke. Another image from the rear gives a clearer view of the damage, especially to the west side of the property. You can clearly see how severely the adjacent house was affected by the fire's spread. In one of the later shots, you can see the gas meter still burning even after the main flames were extinguished, with firefighters waiting for the gas company to shut it off safely.
It’s always tough to see a neighborhood impacted like this, and I hope the residents can start rebuilding soon. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, so we might learn more details in the coming days. It's a reminder of how quickly fires can spread and why it’s so important to have proper safety measures in place.
