This is from Jeff Rudolph:
... some shots from the Fox Lake fire that took place on April 8, 2013. The incident occurred in the 38000 block of Hillandale in unincorporated Spring Grove. Engine 223 was the first to arrive and found an elevated one-story home fully involved in flames. Command quickly called for additional resources, including an Antioch engine and a Spring Grove tender. They also pulled Box 22-14 for the second alarm, bringing in more tenders and chief officers, along with special units from McHenry and Newport.
The terrain posed a major challenge—steep hills and narrow, winding gravel roads made it difficult for both firefighters and equipment. Tenders had to back down several blocks, which slowed response times. At first, there was concern that the homeowner might still be inside, but he returned from a trip to the store just in time to see crews working hard to save his home.
Firefighters worked through the night to fully extinguish the fire and conduct a thorough overhaul of the remains. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. It’s always a tough call when a home is lost, but the quick response and coordination between departments helped prevent a worse outcome.
