The Orland Fire Protection District, covering the communities of Orland Park and Orland Hills, has recently been added to the site through the efforts of Karl Klotz. This district features all six of its stations online, showcasing both their in-service and reserve firefighting vehicles. Karl still needs to photograph one ambulance (#1) to finalize the listings. Orland’s fleet includes Pierce aerials for firefighting, while their engines are either from Pierce or Darley. All ambulances are Type III units constructed by Road Rescue, mounted on Ford E450 chassis. The most recent additions to their fleet—engines and ambulances alike—arrived in 2008.
Orland also operates a variety of specialty vehicles, such as a hazmat unit, a small squad truck, a technical rescue team (TRT) vehicle, a dive unit, a communications van, and a fire investigation unit. One fan favorite among locals is the now-retired 55-foot snorkel, which is occasionally brought out for public relations events and currently resides at Station 6.
For those interested in Orland's station architecture, Station 1 at 9790 W. 151st Street offers a classic look with its traditional red doors, each labeled with the name of the respective company housed there. Karl Klotz captured this image, offering an intimate glimpse into the station's layout and design.
Beyond these primary vehicles, Orland continues to maintain a strong presence in the region with a diverse range of equipment designed to handle any emergency situation. From basic response vehicles to specialized tools for complex rescues, the district ensures comprehensive coverage across its jurisdiction. It’s worth noting that despite some changes over the years, the core mission of protecting lives and property remains unchanged.
In addition to these resources, the community can take pride in knowing that their firefighters are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and training. Regular updates to the fleet reflect a commitment to safety and efficiency, ensuring that Orland Fire Protection District remains prepared for future challenges. Whether it's responding to emergencies or engaging with the public during outreach programs, the district plays a vital role in fostering trust and cooperation between first responders and residents.
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and accessibility, additional photos and detailed descriptions of each vehicle will soon be available online. This initiative aims to provide greater insight into the daily operations of the Orland Fire Protection District, helping to strengthen the bond between the department and the communities it serves. Through initiatives like these, Orland demonstrates its dedication to being not just a responder but also a partner in building safer neighborhoods.
