EU Report: Global Energy Demand Increases by 50% in 2030

According to the Kuwait Torch Report, the EU Economic Report highlighted that global energy demand is expected to rise by 50% by 2030 compared to current levels. Of this increase, oil and natural gas will still account for 60%, emphasizing their continued significance in the global energy mix. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide emissions are projected to grow by 55%, posing a serious threat to sustainable development. The report, presented at the International Energy Conference (Europe-Africa-Middle East) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on November 1, noted that energy demand in the Middle East rose by 2.9% year-on-year, driven by growing electricity needs and the demand for seawater desalination. In addition to traditional fossil fuels, the region is expected to maintain a strategic role in hydropower. The report also emphasized that future energy challenges will push countries to focus on energy security, environmental protection, and the development of renewable sources. During the conference, officials from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq discussed the progress of the Arab Gas Pipeline Project. They reviewed the implementation of the third phase, which covers Syrian territory and aims to connect with Turkish pipelines, eventually linking to the European network. The EU representative expressed readiness to provide financial support for this connection, ensuring stable energy supply for Europe. Additionally, the EU plans to offer technical training to local personnel involved in the project. The EU official stated that this initiative could significantly strengthen bilateral cooperation between Middle Eastern countries and Europe, fostering long-term energy partnerships and promoting regional stability.
