EU Report: Global Energy Demand Increases by 50% in 2030

According to the Kuwait Torch Report, the EU Economic Report highlights that global energy demand is expected to rise by 50% by 2030 compared to current levels. Of this increase, oil and natural gas will still account for 60%, underscoring their continued significance in the global energy mix. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide emissions are projected to grow by 55%, posing a serious threat to sustainable development and environmental stability. At the International Energy Conference held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on November 1, a report was presented that emphasized the rising energy demand in the Middle East, which grew by 2.9% year-on-year due to increased electricity use and the need for seawater desalination. In addition to fossil fuels, the region is expected to maintain its strategic role in hydropower. The report also noted that future energy challenges will push countries to focus on energy security, environmental protection, and the development of renewable resources. It called for stronger policy frameworks to manage energy consumption and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy sources. During the conference, officials from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq discussed the progress of the Arab Gas Pipeline Project. They reviewed the implementation of the third phase, which covers Syrian territory and aims to connect with Turkey. This phase is a crucial step toward linking the pipeline to the European network. An EU representative expressed the bloc’s willingness to provide financial support for this connection, ensuring a more stable energy supply for Europe. Additionally, the EU pledged to train technical personnel involved in the project. The representative highlighted that the initiative could strengthen bilateral cooperation between Middle East countries and Europe, fostering long-term economic and energy partnerships.
