On March 20th, the Implementation Plan for the Second Topic of the National "863" Program Key Project—High-ash-melting-point Coal Pressure Gasification Technology Development and Industrial Demonstration—successfully passed the expert review organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology. The review was conducted by a team of nine experts from renowned institutions such as the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Planning Institute, the China Coal Research Institute, and the Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The expert panel carefully reviewed the project report and evaluated it in the context of the current development status of China's coal gasification industry and the actual coal quality conditions across the country. After thorough deliberation, the group unanimously concluded that the project, which is based on demonstration initiatives and led by enterprises, features a clear division of responsibilities and establishes an effective collaboration model between industry, academia, and research institutions. This model is highly supportive of the project's implementation and future promotion. The implementation plan was deemed to have strong feasibility and practical value.
According to the reports, once this technology is successfully commercialized, it will make significant contributions to the efficient and clean utilization of high-ash, high-melting-point coal, which constitutes approximately 50% of China's total coal reserves. This breakthrough could greatly enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact in regions where such coal types are abundant.
It is also reported that the pilot work of this project will continue to be carried out at Yankuang Lunan Fertilizer Plant, marking an important step forward in the application and testing of this innovative gasification technology. The project is expected to serve as a model for future industrial applications and further promote the sustainable development of China’s coal resource utilization.
