Iceland's first hydrogen-powered commercial ship

Iceland, one of the Nordic countries, has long been a pioneer in renewable energy. From the world’s first commercial hydrogen refueling station, established in 2003, to the launch of the first hydrogen-powered car rental service last year, the country continues to push the boundaries of clean energy innovation. Now, the Icelandic ship "Erding" is set to make history once again by becoming the world’s first hydrogen-powered commercial vessel. According to a report by Reuters on the 23rd, the successful conversion of the "Erding" highlights Iceland's ambitious goal to become the first nation in the world to completely eliminate fossil fuel usage. The ship, named "Erding" which means "lightning" in Icelandic, can carry up to 155 passengers. After its recent renovation, it will be launched in April this year, offering visitors a unique whale-watching experience on the open sea. With hydrogen as its power source, the "Erding" will significantly reduce engine noise, allowing for a more peaceful and immersive whale-watching tour. Tickets are expected to cost around $62 per person, making it an affordable and eco-friendly way to explore Iceland’s natural wonders. Vignier Sigurs Weinson, a local whale-watching guide, shared his excitement about the change. He explained that traditional tours often had to shut off diesel engines when whales were spotted to avoid disturbing them, allowing tourists to hear the sounds of the whales and their spouts. “With a hydrogen-powered engine, the ship will be completely silent, creating an even more magical and immersive experience,” he said. Beyond offering a better whale-watching experience, the "Erding" also serves as a crucial test for the feasibility of hydrogen-powered ships. This project could pave the way for future green maritime transportation, reinforcing Iceland’s leadership in sustainable technology and environmental stewardship.

Alloy Anchors

There are many shapes of metal anchors, such as Y-shaped, V-shaped, T-shaped, S-shaped, etc. (see Figure 1). Metal anchors are refractory castables, refractory plastics and refractory spray coatings used to support and fix thinner liners. Which shape of metal anchor to use depends on the structure of the lining. The shape of the Ceramic Anchor is shown in Figure 2. The upper and lower ends must be flat, and the remaining 4 sides are toothed to increase the occlusal area and friction with the lining body, and play a role of suspension and support
